WSP USA GIS Senior Specialist [OneIT] in Toronto, Ontario

Overview:

WSP is looking for a skilled GIS Specialist in IT who is action oriented, outcome focused, passionate about geospatial technologies, a collaborative team player who understands and embraces our firm’s vision for implementation and optimization of Engineering Software and supporting technologies and systems. This role may suit someone currently in a Geospatial Sciences role looking to move to a more IT based career.

The successful applicant will work as part of the Americas Regional IT Hub alongside the Enterprise Engineering Applications Management (EAM) Team to deliver reliable support to our Americas region’s GIS and Engineering staff. This role will also collaborate with our software leads, ESRI, Enterprise IT, and the other Regional IT Hubs in the AMEA and APAC regions. It is unlikely that many people have deep expertise in EVERY facet of the ESRI landscape. The GIS IT Digital Champions will collaborate with the other Regional IT Hubs and Senior GIS leadership to form a collective team to comprehensively cover broad areas of subject matter expertise.

The principal duties are as follows:

  • Organize and facilitate the analysis and evaluation by the GIS Regional Leads of requests for GIS applications, named user seats, and systems based on user needs, requirements, and competencies.

  • Provide advanced support of all three core ESRI based GIS software platforms within the region. (Desktop, Enterprise, ArcGIS Online)

  • Collaborate with Business stakeholders, EAM Team, and IT Team and contribute GIS expertise to help automate critical processes to help achieve efficiencies.

  • Recommend use of appropriate GIS software tools and delivery pathways.

  • Contribute to formalizing requirements, testing and acceptance process for release of GIS applications.

  • Coordinate successful deployment of GIS applications onto client machines working with WSP’s Service Now environment and On-Site Support (OSS)

  • Help develop training and change management plans around the use and adoption of GIS tools across the business.

  • Help to maintain technical support documentation for GIS applications and share related knowledge in an effective manner to team members and business users.

  • Continually improve the processes around GIS delivery working with the EAM, the Geospatial Practice Area Network (PAN)

  • Assist in the management of licensing of GIS applications and associated deployment reporting.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry trends and standards pertaining to GIS.

  • Identify training needs for users of GIS software applications through knowledge assessments.

  • Work with WSP’s assigned ESRI training advisor to recommend and coordinate training.

  • Comply with all role specific SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) obligations.

Qualifications/Experience:

As an ideal candidate you will have:

Required

  • Degree in GIS, IT or Computer Science

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with the ESRI suite of GIS products

  • Some experience / exposure to working in an IT Support Role

  1. Preferable
  • Bilingual (English and French and or Spanish)

  • Experience with non-GIS engineering software

  • Previous Engineering IT experience

  • CAD/BIM/Digital Engineering Application Experience
