Sierra Nevada Corporation Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Hybrid Eligible) in Sparks, Nevada

Our Mechanical engineers research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll conceptualize and deliver complex mechanical structures and systems and your technical duties include the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains – air, land, sea, space and cyber.

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 10 or more years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of industry-standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing, and production processes

  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices across the mechanical discipline

  • 6 or more years experience with Finite Element Analysis, specifically with structural analysis including, modal, random vibration.

  • 6 or more years experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics, solving for external flow, internal flow, thermal models including natural convection and forced convection solutions.

  • Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams Background in electronics packaging for use in airborne, shipborne and ground based systems.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required.

  • Experience applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5

Preferred:

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • FEMAP and LSDYNA experience is highly preferred, or experience running non-linear models on a similar solver.
