DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accountant 3, you will perform advanced technical work in the actuarial analysis of property and casualty insurance rates, rating procedures, rating plans, and the statistical analysis of related data.  You will have the opportunity to assist with the management of the State Workers' Insurance Fund (SWIF) accounting section and supervise accounting staff activities including planning, assigning, and reviewing work, providing direction and training, and evaluating performance. Leadership skills are utilized to oversee policy and claims accounting operations at SWIF such as reviewing production for accuracy and reconciling data with necessary reports when applicable.  This position reviews process changes for efficiency and effectiveness, designs new processes, performs testing, writes procedures, trains staff, and updates other SWIF departments and outside agencies.  You will also make recommendations to management for improvements to existing accounting practices and procedures in order to better meet the needs of stakeholders.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with office visits as required.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Scranton. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as an Accountant 2; or Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting. Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation.  A Master's degree in accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.
