About New Mexico Military Institute: NMMI is a state-supported, co-educational college preparatory high school and junior college, complete with Junior and Senior ROTC programs. With a Corps of Cadets numbering up to 1000 young men and women, NMMI provides an accredited college preparatory curriculum on the high school level and currently developing a new middle school. *Position: New Mexico Military Institute seeks an open-rank, tenure-track faculty member to teach both junior college and high school English courses beginning in August 2024. This is a 9-month full-time position. English faculty will promote the mission of NMMI, particularly the academic goals of a liberal arts education, through developing critical thinking, communication, and knowledge acquisition through written platforms. Tasks:

  • Teach five courses per semester comprising a combination of high school and college in the academic discipline of English.
  • Normal responsibilities for English faculty are assumed. These include, but are not limited to, the development of course syllabi, cooperation in teaching assignments within the division, remaining current in teaching disciplines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrate a capacity to communicate effectively orally or in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids, an interpreter, or any other accommodations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work alongside and cooperate with supervisory staff and colleagues (both faculty and staff) at all levels.
  • Be familiar with learning skills and teaching strategies at both the high school and collegiate levels.

  • A Masters degree in English or a related field (with 18 credit hours in English required) at the time of the initial contract or, in exceptional cases, one obtained within five years of the initial contract.
  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the high school or college level.

  • Teaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels to include full-time, adjunct, or graduate teaching assistant positions.
  • Teaching experience in numerous areas of English, including British Literature, American Literature, Mythology, and World Literature.
  • Comp I and Comp II teaching experience.
