The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Columbia Neonatal Growth and Development (GraD) clinic continues to expand, and physical and occupational therapists play a key role as clinical evaluators in patient care and clinical trials. A (VHO) Occupational Therapist is needed to expand the clinical efforts of GraD clinic as well as other important research related initiatives including early detection of cerebral palsy.

We are currently seeking a (VHO) Occupational Therapist for the Neonatal Growth and Development (GraD) clinic, the high-risk infant follow-up clinic at Columbia University. The (VHO) occupational therapist will provide clinical therapy evaluations, patient education and will work on clinical research studies. The candidate should be highly motivated, interested in high-risk infant follow-up, have excellent clinical skills and an interest in academic research. We are looking for someone who can establish good rapport with children and families and expand the team's current knowledge of cerebral palsy and other developmental disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage care for medically complex and medically fragile infants and children.
  • Perform clinical evaluations of high-risk infants and toddlers.
  • Perform functional and impairment-based evaluations.
  • Utilize tools including but not limited to the Hammersmith Infant Neurologic Examination (HINE), the General Movements Assessment (GMA) and Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS).
  • Educate parents and caregivers and make recommendations for follow-up and community care based on evaluation findings.
  • Serve as a community mentor in educating clinicians on therapist specific assessments or other assessments not currently being utilized in GraD clinic.
  • Work on a collaborative multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in development of education materials for parents and caregivers.
  • Participate in GraD clinic meetings and additional meetings as needed.
  • Assist the investigators in design, planning and implementation of new research projects.
  • Assist in writing protocols.
  • Coordinate comprehensive multi-disciplinary care for patients with cerebral palsy or at high-risk for cerebral palsy.
  • Monitoring adherence to regulatory requirements and good clinical practice.
  • Communicate with research teams at Columbia University and other institutions.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a master's degree in occupational therapy, plus three years of related experience.
  • NYS License as a Occupational Therapist.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of high-risk infant follow-up work experience.
  • Ability to work in teams, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Experience with cerebral palsy.
