Google Technical Lead, Firmware Engineer, Modem in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10 years of experience with modem technology.

  • Experience in technical leadership, setting technical direction, and guiding a cross-functional team.

  • Experience in cellular protocol stack (e.g., AS/Access Stratum/RRC/PDCP/RLC/MAC/PHY/SDAP), control/data plane.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience with wireless technologies (e.g., 5G NR, LTE-FDD/LTE-TDD, NB-IOT, NTN, DSDS).

With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

As a Technical Lead for Firmware Engineers, you will own the strategy, scoping, navigation, and outcome for technical problems. You will focus on development, integration, and customization of modem features on Android devices, working with vendors. You will be the point of contact for all debugging and fixing modem issues from factory, certification (e.g., GCF/PTCRB/IOT/FIT) and field. You will also be responsible for developing power and performance (e.g., call, data, connectivity) optimized connectivity solutions.

The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Develop modem software and innovative modem differentiators to improve the overall connectivity experience to end users.

  • Debug, analyze, and fix modem issues from factory, certification (e.g., GCF, PTCRB, IOT), field, and end users.

  • Identify modem performance gaps and solutions to bridge the gap and improve the overall performance.

  • Review, integrate, and verify vendor connectivity solutions.

  • Clarify open-ended technical problems, resolving ambiguity, making them tractable and easier to solve.
