CITY OF HAVREPEPIN PARK SUPERVISORDEPARTMENT: Parks and RecreationACCOUNTABLE TO: Parks and Recreation DirectorSUMMARY OF WORK: This position plans and conducts Pepin Park games, arts/crafts, and special events program for children grades 1-6. This is an eight-week program.JOB CHARACTERISTICS:Nature of Work: This position performs duties outdoors during the summer months. Position works extensively with children and must be able to work and provide activities in heat of summer. Position must provide sporting games as well as arts and crafts activities. Must be able to establish good rapport with children and provide for a healthy, safe and fun environment.Personal Contacts: Daily contact with the public; contact with local merchants for donations.Supervision Received: Position is mainly self-directed; weekly communication with Director.Supervision Exercised: Supervises four Parks assistants and one HRDC assistant.Essential Functions: Position requires ability to: communicate orally, visually observe children, assist with various sports and craft activities, transport supplies, demonstrate crafts, set up and move tables and chairs, and perform first aid and CPR.AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: • Plans and conducts park activities, games, and arts and crafts.• Plans special events. • Prepares craft material order.• Contact special event presenters/entertainment.• Conducts games, and arts and crafts on a daily basis.• Assigns assistants to playmobile and special events.• Takes inventory of equipment and orders needed equipment with approval of Director.• Collects fees for arts and crafts projects from participants.• Solicits contributions to programs.• Provides on the job training to assistants.• Disciplines participants as needed.• Creates a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for program.• Approves time cards for assistants.• Fills out accident report in event of accident to participants or staff.• Performs other related duties as required.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge: This position requires a knowledge of: arts/crafts, games, and activities suitable for grades 1-6; and physical and mental capabilities of children.Skills: This position requires skills in leading activities for children.Abilities: This position requires the ability to: establish good rapport with children; supervise; organize; schedule; play a variety of games; communicate effectively orally and in writing; follow verbal and written instructions; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:• A High School diploma or GED Equivalent. Additional coursework in elementary education preferred. • Experience working with children preferred. • Community First Aid certificate or equivalent or obtain within 30 days of hire. JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:Evaluation of this position will be based primarily upon performance of the preceding requirements and duties.
