CITY OF HAVREPEPIN PARK ASSISTANTDEPARTMENT: Parks and RecreationACCOUNTABLE TO: Pepin Park SupervisorSUMMARY OF WORK: This position assists with Pepin Park games, arts/crafts, and special events program for children grades 1-6 as well as drives playmobile to other parks. This is an eight-week program.JOB CHARACTERISTICS:Nature of Work: This position performs duties outdoors during the summer months. Position works extensively with children and must be able to work and provide activities in heat of summer. Position must provide sporting games as well as arts and crafts activities. Must be able to establish good rapport with children and provide for a healthy, safe and fun environment.Personal Contacts: Daily contact with the public.Supervision Received: Daily supervision from the Pepin Park Supervisor.Essential Functions: Position requires ability to: communicate orally, visually observe children, assist with various sports and craft activities, demonstrate crafts, set up tables and chairs, drive a vehicle, and perform first aid and CPR.AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: • Assists with park activities, games, and arts and crafts.• Participates in sports, special events, and crafts. • Assists with discipline of large group activities.• Checks out equipment to participants and oversees toys in playmobile.• Drives playmobile to city parks, picks up playmobile at city shop, conducts playmobile program, and collects certain fees at playmobile.• Creates a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for activities.• Fills out accident report in the event of an accident to participants or staff.• Collects money for daily craft.• Turns in any money collected to supervisor.• Performs other related duties as required.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge: This position requires a knowledge of: arts/crafts, games, and activities suitable for grades 1-6; and children’s physical and mental capabilities.Skills: This position requires skills in leading activities for children.Abilities: This position requires the ability to: establish good rapport with children; maintain discipline; organize; schedule; play a variety of games; drive playmobile; communicate effectively orally and in writing; follow verbal and written instructions; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to:• Completion of sophomore year in High School. • Experience working with children preferred.• Recreation and sports participation. • Community First Aid certificate or equivalent or obtain within 30 days of hire.• Must possess a valid state of Montana driver’s license.JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:Evaluation of this position will be based primarily upon performance of the preceding requirements and duties.
