Meta Mechanical Engineer (Data Center Product Development & Integration) in Fremont, California

Summary:

Meta is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer in the design and construction of critical facilities to become part of our data center engineering Product Development and Integration team. Our data centers are the foundation upon which our software operates. Building and operating reliable and efficient data centers is essential to support the growth of Meta. The data center engineering team collaborates with all key stake-holders to ensure engineering and design of our data centers incorporate considerations from micro-levels (servers and IT equipment design requirements) to macro-levels (mechanical cooling and power distribution options) to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability of our compute infrastructure. This position is full-time.The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a strong background in all aspects of mechanical engineering including airside and waterside equipment, technologies, and applications. A thorough understanding of mechanical control systems as well as electrical distribution systems is desired. This person shall be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and be a self-starter that can excel with little direction.

Required Skills:

Mechanical Engineer (Data Center Product Development & Integration) Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and/or assist on new data center product designs, integrating new technological advancements and requirements while balancing business priorities around cost, efficiency, time to delivery and sustainability.

  2. Responsible for data center product mechanical systems strategies and infrastructure designs and specifications as well as follow-up support of new product delivery.

  3. Work closely with CSLA, Electrical, Connectivity & Controls Engineering teams to achieve holistic new product design that is optimized for cost, construction speed, operational efficiency, and long-term fungibility/flexibility.

  4. Develop and collaborate with cross-functional teams to work on prefabricated (DFSMA) solutions and component offerings to be embedded into our new design products.

  5. Balance short-term priorities while understanding and tracking industry standards and emerging trends to drive long-term strategy with the Engineering Tech Strategy team. This includes performing research and developing analysis on new technologies, alternate materials, building models of cost and environmental impact, implementing pilots of new approaches, and presenting recommendations.

  6. Partner with our Site Selection team on assigned site due diligence and master planning projects.

  7. Work with design engineers and field teams on new design types so they can correctly apply them to specific projects.

  8. Lead and oversee change management of applicable systems and drive towards resolution.

  9. Collaborate with multiple cross-functional teams outside of Engineering across different disciplines to assess and vet design solutions.

  10. Drive design and path to breakground program schedules while working closely with design and construction to ensure milestones and completion dates are on track.

  11. Able to travel up to 25% of the time.

  12. Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 10+ years of applicable industry experience with critical facilities design, engineering, delivery and/or management.

  2. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field or equivalent industry experience.

  3. Work simultaneously on multiple projects, in a team or independently.

  4. Experience establishing working relationships and resolving interpersonal conflicts.

  5. Working knowledge of applicable industry standards, building codes and safety standards including NEC, ASHRAE, NETA, ANSI, IEEE, NFPA, UL, UFC and UBC

  6. Project Management: Coordinating multiple consultant and contractor teams

  7. Troubleshooting and analytical skills and experience providing solutions to complex projects under pressure

  8. Organization and communication experience with skill at communicating technical details to all organizational levels

  2. Professional Engineering Registration (PE)

  3. Data center mechanical systems design experience.

  4. Control Systems design experience.

  5. Advanced computational modeling experience.

Public Compensation:

$129,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
