    Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Mechanical Engineering-Varanasi Research Group (https://varanasi.mit.edu/) , to play a pivotal role in advancing the development of innovative bio-interfaces and biopsy techniques and measurement modalities aimed at early detection of ovarian cancer. The group has been working on creating novel surface- and fluidic-based devices for capturing cells from human organs (specifically fallopian tubes) through a spectrum of projects focusing on both epithelial and stroma cells. Will develop innovative cell capture approaches, evaluate the impact of these techniques on cell viability and other biological markers, and translate research into practical clinical applications; study the mechanobiology of these systems and probe the bio-physicochemical properties (e.g., electrical and optical) of these tissues and captured cells to understand and identify potential biomarkers; and make significant contributions to scientific conferences and publications in peer-reviewed journals. This position also offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with multiple teams at MIT and to work within a focused, multidisciplinary team.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field. PREFERRED: strong background in cell mechanics and bioanalysis; expertise with biomaterial synthesis, fabrication, and functionalization; experience with 2D and 3D cell culturing techniques; ability to analyze and interpret complex biological data; familiarity with microscopy and imaging techniques; and experience with medical devices, cancer biology or related fields, and animal models (rat or mouse).
