Lecturer or Assistant Professor - Nursing

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY), a comprehensive college offering 58 associate and bachelor’s degree programs in downtown Brooklyn, invites applications for a full-time lecturer or assistant professor in the Nursing Department, to begin in the Fall 2024 semester. The lecturer position leads to a certificate of continuous employment (CCE). The assistant professor position is a tenure track appointment.

The Nursing Department currently offers an AAS degree in Nursing and a BS in Nursing completion program. Serving over 400 students, there are 10 full-time faculty members and many strong adjunct clinical faculty, in addition to dedicated staff supporting the office, laboratories and clinical placements. The college seeks a faculty member with demonstrated leadership abilities and the skill set to play a significant role in the growth of the nursing department.

Expectations include but are not limited to:

Lecturer - the faculty member is expected to teach courses in the associate and baccalaureate degree programs and be committed to excellence in teaching, in addition to providing service to the Nursing Department, the School of Professional Studies, the College, and the University. Service expectations include advisement, curricular updates, recruitment and other outreach, assessment, and contributions to accreditation requirements.

Assistant Professor – in addition to the duties of a lecturer, tenure-track faculty are responsible for scholarly activities leading to peer review publications and presentations.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Nursing, the faculty member is expected to develop and maintain relationships with professional nursing organizations and attend regional and national professional and educational conferences. In addition to classroom time, the position entails office hours for student support and advisement and support to grow the program. The ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours may be required. Ongoing professional growth is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

For appointment as Lecturer:

An earned bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related healthcare discipline, and an active NYS nursing license. Also required is the ability to teach successfully.

For appointment as Assistant Professor:

A doctoral degree or equivalent in Nursing or a related healthcare discipline, and an active NYS nursing license. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • For a Lecturer appointment, a master's degree or higher in Nursing or a closely related healthcare field is strongly preferred

  • A minimum of 4 years of full-time professional practice, as well as a current and comprehensive knowledge base in the field of clinical nursing

  • Previous teaching experience in a higher education or professional setting, with strong background in educational methodology, and the ability to teach courses in the core curriculum via in-person, online, and hybrid modalities

  • Simulation certification and ability to teach in the simulation laboratory is preferred

  • Commitment to supporting the learning and engagement of a diverse student body

  • Vaccinations for healthcare providers as recommended by the CDC

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications

COMPENSATION

Lecturer: $69,983 - $88,998

Assistant Professor: $75,465 - $93,134

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
