Quality Assurance Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • The Quality Assurance Supervisor is an integral member of the site team to implement robust Quality System in the plant.

  • The Quality Assurance Supervisor responsibilities are to oversee the daily tasks of the quality department including maintaining quality assurance programs as per Company Policies and Procedures.

  • The Quality Assurance Supervisor must be able to communicate and interact with all levels of personnel and assimilate pertinent information and data.

  • The QA Supervisor must possess the ability to manage multiple activities as well as urgent requests in a professional and timely manner.

  • The QA Supervisor shall have an e xcellent understanding of principles of Food Safety, Laboratory Safety and Quality Assurance and Control with ability to train fellow employees and facilitate plant wide programs.

  • The QA Supervisor is directly responsible for the oversight of the Quality Assurance program of the Brantford facility.

  • The QA Supervisor has a strong commitment to food and employee safety and ensures compliance at all times.

  • MAIN RESPONSIBILITY & SCOPE

  • Build and maintain robust quality systems to achieve the corporate Quality goals and objectives.

  • Oversee the plant’s Quality Assurance system to ensure all corporate, customers’ applicable regulatory requirements: CFIA/Canada & FDA/USA are met.

  • Direct oversight of the daily work activities of the QA staffs as well as develop direct reports 60% of time to be spent on the shop-floor for coaching & training for staff, focus on Quality & Food Culture and other critical areas to strengthen the GMPs.

  • Oversee of the analytical testing and micro releases, and sensory program and training

  • Oversee EMP program and manage the Apollo EMP data system.

  • Completion of CAPA reports for customer complaints.

  • Compile QA reports including monthly KPI’s, Supplier NCR’s, GMP, and First Time Right.

  • Know and understand Food Safety Principles: HACCP, GMPs, and Allergens etc.

  • Know and understand Laboratory Testing Techniques, Methodologies, Safety Principles and GLPs

  • Know and understand Principles of Food Microbiology

  • Directly interact with internal departments and other functional areas to facilitate QA operations

  • Ensure that new and current staff is trained properly according to BC protocol in quality, analytical, sensory micro and food safety test procedures and methods

  • Know and understand thoroughly the laboratory instrumentation and equipment including calibration and preventive maintenance

  • Ensure data is entered into the Quality Module of SAP accurately and in a timely manner

  • Oversee analytical sensory testing, review results and communicate non conformances, maintain appropriate Non-Conformance logs

  • Submit reports to Sr. QA Manager: First time quality, KPI, Food Safety, GMP, Internal Audits as required

  • Participate in third party and internal audits as assigned (FSSC, Customer, and Regulatory), and participate in CAPA and its follow up

  • Perform projects and special requests as assigned (site committees, continuous improvement)

  • Liais e between production, supply chain, CSR and vendor to ensure food safety objectives are met and maintained in the supply chain.

  • Principal trainer for Quality/GMP and responsible for the plant-wide training as well as specific plant employee training: New Hire and Refresher training

  • Work as a PCQI to review and sign off the food safety documents as per FSMA or SFCA.

  • Ensure validation, verification and monitoring of food safety and sanitation programs are completed and executed.

  • Assist in managing the site’s DMS: creating, maintaining and uploading policy and procedures.

  • Perform projects and special requests as assigned including local or regional initiatives.

  • Support on Regional QA projects as needed and be a leader amongst regional peers and share/support best practices

  • In the absence of the Sr. QA Manager, represent all Food Safety Systems and Processes.

    SCOPE

  • The Quality Assurance Supervisor is directly responsible for the oversee of the Quality Assurance program at the Barry Callebaut Chatham facility located at Chatham, Ontario, Canada.

  • BC Brantford produces and supply the product throughout the north America (including Canada, USA & Mexico), and the Quality Assurance Supervisor role contribute and support to the Barry Callebaut’s North American supply chain.

    EDUCATION, LANGUAGE, SKILLS & QUALIIFICATIONS

  • University graduate or College diploma in Food Science, Microbiology or related science discipline.

  • International HACCP alliance accredited HACCP certified.

  • Certified Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI).

  • Internal auditor certificate will be an additional asset.

  • Knowledge of designing, implementing and managing GMP and HACCP Food Safety Plan in a food manufacturing industry.

  • Minimum 3 years of previous QA supervisory experience and proven ability to manage a high performing team.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a GFSI Certified food manufacturing facility.

  • Experience in GFSI (BRC/SQF/FSSC 22000), Kosher, regulatory audits are highly desirable.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing data systems such as SAP, Salesforce and DMS.

  • High level of computer competency (SAP, Microsoft Office).

  • Excellent communication skills.

    SECTION 2- CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • University graduate or College diploma in Food Science, Microbiology or related science discipline.

  • Certified HACCP and Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI).

  • Maintain, update, and ensure consistent execution of Quality Assurance Programs in compliance with Barry Callebaut Corporate, CFIA, and FSMA requirements.

  • Support third party audits (CFIA, FSSC 22000, and Customer) and prepare/coach cross functional Managers before and during these audits.

  • Conduct Quality, GMP, and Allergen training including revision of training programs as required.

  • Assist with cross functional SOP development and ensure SOPs and related documents are in correct format, stored, and distributed as per manufacturing excellence requirements.

  • Lead monthly GMP audit with a cross-functional team to identify opportunities for improvement.

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE/TECHNICAL OR FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCEIS

  • Minimum 5 years experiences in managing & implementing Quality Assurance program in the food manufacturing industry.

  • Minimum 3 years QA supervisory experience and proven ability to manage a high performing team.

  • Experience in GFSI (BRC/SQF/FSSC 22000) certifications and conducting internal and external audits.

  • Lead the follow-up for non-conformance and issue corrective actions based on deviations found in plant process or resulting from customer complaints.

  • Experiences of managing environmental swab data (ATP, TPC, Salmonella, Listeria spp., and EB) to determine root cause of deficiencies and provide sanitation feedback on performance and improvements.
