WSP USA Geotechnical Engineer in Training in Barrie, Ontario

The Opportunity:

At WSP, we're continuing to grow and develop our expertise in Geotechnical Engineering, operating as a trusted advisor and technical expert on engineering design challenges for our clients across multiple industries. Our team is growing, and as a result we're seeking an entry level Geotechnical Engineer / EIT to join our Ground Engineering West Group in WSP’s Barrie office on a full-time basis.

As an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer / EIT, a day in the life involves time spent in the field as well as working in the office on projects and assignments related to geotechnical engineering. You’ll work closely with our tight-knit team, be mentored by industry experts, and work on various project throughout the province .

What you can expect to do here:

  • Participate in and promote a safety-first culture;

  • Supervise geotechnical investigations including test pitting, borehole drilling, and in-situ tests;

  • Complete geotechnical analyses including bearing capacity, settlement, and slope stability under the direction and supervision of intermediate and senior engineers;

  • Assist senior team members in preparing geotechnical studies, prepare proposals, cost estimates and engineering reports for projects of low to high complexity;

  • Provide technical support in geotechnical projects including field investigation, laboratory test result interpretation; design and construction; and geotechnical analysis; and,

  • You may be required to perform other tasks as part of your role in the team.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with Geotechnical emphasis from an accredited University;

  • 0 to 2 years of relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering environment;

  • Registered or eligible to be registered as an Engineer-in-Training with PEO;

  • Commitment to safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues;

  • Strong technical writing, interpersonal communication, and emotional intelligence;

  • An Ontario Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle;

  • Openness to work away from the office and on project sites ;

  • Sense of initiative, attention to detail, and team spirit.
